 When we got married, my husband and I decided to pour sand into a jar instead of lighting a unity candle. We took turns laying layer upon layer of tiny pebbles on top of each other to declare that our lives were so intertwined they'd be as impossible to separate as those tiny sand grains. Through moving, decor rearranging, and just general time passing, the layers inside that jar are no longer straight and pretty. They've shifted into each other. They’re wavy and out of place. They're imperfect. Did you know that...  Love in all our relationships is like that. Love with God, ourselves, family, friends, and spouses. You start out with this perfect, pristine connection. You pour out your time, energy, and thoughts. Then life happens- loss, gains, change, babies, highs and lows- and everything gets shaken up.  Your relationship withstood the fight against cancer. Your spouse held onto hope when you felt helpless. Even when your family felt abandoned, God never left your side. Take a moment to look at all your lopsided layers. They aren’t the mess you saw them as before. They’re actually beautiful because they reveal how God always binds messy people together, shaking and sifting makes relationships stronger, and no matter what pushes us down, Love never fails to pick us back up again.
